TORONTO, Ont. (November 8, 2021) – Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the 15 athletes attending a Women's National Team program camp from November 7-13, 2021, during FIBA’s International Window for Women's Basketball.

The camp will be held in downtown Toronto at the Raptors practice court inside Scotiabank Arena.

"This camp is an important first step to begin our journey towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and will be focused not only around on-court development, but also continuing to grow as a program off the court together," said Denise Dignard, General Manager / Executive Vice-President, Women's High Performance. “I’d also like to extend my sincere appreciation once again to the Toronto Raptors for providing a first-class training environment for our team.”

Despite not having an official FIBA competition scheduled during this window, the organization recognized the importance of bringing the players together to continue their development and training, both individually and as a program.

This camp marks the start of the next three years leading into the Paris 2024 Olympics and will feature a mix of on-court skill-based sessions and off-court activations including team events, guest speakers, and community appearances.

Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team will look to qualify for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup - FIBA's flagship women's competition - via one of four global FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournaments taking place from February 10-13, 2022.  The tournaments will feature four national teams each, with the top three from each qualifying for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2022 to be held September 22 to October 1, 2022 in Sydney, Australia.

The Draw for the four FIBA Women’s World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournaments will take place later in November, shortly after the announcement of the hosts (exact date to be announced).

Several age-group players attending the camp will be vying for spots next summer on Canada’s teams for the FIBA U18 Women's Americas Championship (June 13-19, 2022) and/or FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup (July 9-17, 2022) in Debrecen, Hungary.

Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team remains ranked fourth in the FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike, after the rankings were updated following the Tokyo Olympic Basketball Tournament.
